I am absolutely not a beer drinker at all and I LOVE Dark Lord. Honest to God it drinks like a malt based dessert wine. Fabulous stuff and despite the above average sweetness for beer and full body, it goes tremendously well with grilled meats.

You don't have to taste the difference to know that the economics just don't add up. If literal liters of an alcoholic beverage are being sold that cheap then something is also cheap with the quality of the product.

How was the herring and foie gras? In my mind it sounds an incongruous match, but such matches can surprise. Very good, actually. The creamy foie gras tamed down the vinegary sweetness of the herring so that the foie gras was actually the dominant flavor and the pickled herring more subtle a flavor.

In my early Berserkerdom days, I once doctored icewine with homemade vanilla extract and liquid smoke. Minus the botrytis glycerin tingle, I was surprisingly close to Sauternes.
