I've been doing this for a couple of years because, once you've done it, you don't want store bought bacon again, at least my wife doesn't. Cure your pork belly for a week in the fridge. Use prague powder #1, salt and any other seasonings you like. You can use pepper, sugar, brown sugar, anything yo...

Re: What is the meaning of your wine hobby?

I was very geeky about wine for many years. It helped me build a cellar full of wines that I like/love. I'm now in the enjoyment phase. I don't obsess about it. I just enjoy pulling out good to great bottles to enjoy with my wife, and sometime in the future again, friends and family.

We opened a 2001 last night. Our 19th anniversary. We stayed next door at Bartel's Ranch on our Honeymoon.
I didn't write down notes but it was very good and in a very good place. Definitely not going anywhere in the near term.

The tasting note contains a lot of references to very sweet things like blueberry cobbler. Without knowing RS, this scares me off because I don't need a case of wine at any price that I won't drink.

We had a Zoom wine tasting with a group of relatives last night. We all went to Tuscany last year and one of our visits was Tolaini. We had all ordered wine that we tasted there delivered home. We had pizza and opened a 2015 Al Passo, a 2014 Valdisanti and a 2011 Picconero. Fun night.

A little off topic. There are 3 Chinese restaurants in town. 1 is awful. The other 2 are decent. Last night we tried to order from 1 of them and found that they had closed down due to the virus. Not sure if that was due to people not ordering or just prudence. Most of their business is takeout. They...

I found wine before I found love. It's definitely better to drink with someone you love, or a lot of people you love, than alone. That said, I don't think anyone should deprive themselves due to isolation.

During the fall shipping season 6 different deliveries, all on different days over approximately 2 weeks, all by the same UPS guy. As he hauled the last case up my steps he said, "I think you have a drinking problem!"

Monte Argentario

Hi,

We're going to be in Maremma, staying in Monte Argentario during part of our upcoming trip to Tuscany. I've thought about a day trip to Giglio while there, but would love to know if anyone had any thoughts or recommendations for things to do in the area. We'll be there for 3 days.

Thanks,

They're not what they used to be, in my opinion. That is not to say that their wines are not good but they are not as good or special as they once were and they're prices are significantly inflated. I used to buy at least some bottles of Insignia every year but I stopped at 2007. I've had most of th...
