Re: Davenport Cellars is Closing 65% off all Wines

Having had the ‘14 Mr. B multiple times now, as well as the ‘08 and ‘11 Continuity, I just want to chime in that these are delicious wines and - at 50% off on case purchases - ridiculously good values.

I wish I’d found Davenport years ago.

I had my first bottle of the ‘16 the other night and thought it was the most enjoyable vintage of this wine in memory. Glad to have 5 more...will probably regret not buying a case.

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?

The ‘14 Kirschenmann was drinking very well last night. Lighter weight than any of the other zins in my cellar, with lots of fresh raspberry and a mildly herbal edge leading to a savory finish. Nothing compares to the ‘12 Kirschenmann, but this is a nice reminder of that wine.

I’ve only had the ‘05 Winter, at age 10. I liked it quite a bit, but it was definitely a big, fruit forward, higher octane wine (above 15%, I believe). I’d say Mike Smith’s Myriad Napa cab is a closer approximation than Merrill’s Black Cat.

Opened my lone bottle of the 1991 Ravenswood Sangiacomo Merlot tonight. The cork was moist half way up, but I was able to extract it without issue. 2013 Old and Mature Vines Zinfandel This is an exceptional Zinfandel in a red fruited, medium bodied, more elegant style. Some acidity is present to provide lift but it does not seem obtrusive in any way, and the tannins are nicely rounded at this stage. Truly delicious! Consistent with other Scher...

2013 Dolinsek - Seemed a bit out of balance to my palate, with strong peppery notes on the front end and a gush of acidity taking over on the back end. Not really in my wheelhouse, either alone or with food. Followed over almost 5 hours; it held up just fine but didn’t improve.

2012 Quivet Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon This doesn’t look or drink like a 7+ year old wine.
