Re: 1968 Chateau Souverain Zinfindel

I had the 1970 version at Bern’s two years ago and it was fantastic. I have a ‘72 in the cellar but, given the reputation of the vintage, I been thinking of it as more of a sentimental bottle (it’s my birth year) than something I’d ever open.

Re: 2016 Scalette Piantonaia - Galloni 50 Pt TN

In reading the reviews, Galloni thought all of the 2016 wines from Poggio Scalette were less impressive than usual. I think tasting the wine from bottle twice is giving it a fair shot and I’m glad to see he posted the review and score that he felt was appropriate. If he thought both bottles were fla...

Yep, ours is double walled and seems to hold at cellar temp for a few hours (the longest we’ve tried it).

Had some delicious 2009 Cimarossa cab out of it most recently. [cheers.gif]

Nice offers from Ruston during the sale - 2015 Cuvée Mahalia (a Merlot-Cab blend) for $25, 2016 La Maestra Cab for $39, and 2015 La Maestra Cab in magnum for $99. I passed on the magnum but happily bought some of each of the other two.

River Terrace Inn in Napa was mid-priced and in good shape when we stayed there...although that’s been 10 years now. They still send email promotions and the place looks as nice or nicer than it was then. Hopefully others who have stayed there more recently can chime in.

Me, too. My wife is currently not drinking so, if I open a bottle, it lasts me 2-3 days. I don’t save bottles much longer than that, but find that the Repour seems to preserve better than a blast of argon or a vacu-vin over that period of time.

I had a glass of Bluet at a restaurant in Bar Harbor this summer. It was pretty simple and not something I’d order a second time.

The still wines are Bartlett winery, however, were interesting and I bought a few bottles of different things to bring home.

If something significant doesn't happen on a global scale, I suspect which grapes are growing in Napa will be the least of our concerns 30 years from now. Lots of suggestions to keep you busy. I’ll add Enfield, which makes some very well priced Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Tempranillo, among other things. I’m a huge fan of their ‘Pretty Horses’ Tempranillo and their rosé, both of which are terrific values at $25-30.

Worst that wasn’t obviously flawed: 2010 Tenuta di Renieri Chianti Classico. “Rustic” is being kind. No charm whatsoever.

Worst domestic wine for which I had reasonably high hopes: 2007 Arrowood ‘Lasseter Vineyard’ cab. Probably the most bitter tannins I’ve ever encountered. Really unpleasant.

I don’t have much experience around Pinot vines. Is the range of grape sizes in that cluster typical? I don’t remember seeing such a range before, and wasn’t sure if that’s because I’m more used to seeing Cabernet or just poor memory because it’s been a few years since I was around mid-summer vines.
