Good call on Chabot Vineyard, Roy. Several Beringer cabs from there in the ‘90s were excellent. Haven’t had more recent vintages aside from the ‘08 which, unfortunately, wasn’t at the same level.

2014 Papera. Usually I love Papera, but the acidity seemed to stick out on this wine in a way that made it pair well with food but less pleasant on its own.

Sounds like Black Sears, up on Howell Mountain, has also decided to not make any 2020 wines.

What a financial blow for some of these smaller, family run wineries. So sad.

I see Lamborn, up on Howell Mountain, announced today that they won’t be making any wines this year because of the smoke taint in their vineyards. I wonder if that will be true for many others up there.

Speaking of Big Mike and GIII, whatever became of 12C? I’ve had several vintages that I’ve really enjoyed from them, including a terrific bottle of the ‘12 last weekend. But I haven’t seen anything from them in a while and their website appears to be MIA.

I just stood a ‘14 Scarlett up for this weekend, so good to hear it’s drinking well.

We had a 2012 Quivet Napa cab a few days ago and it was excellent. Such a solid value, year in and year out.

2013 Montafi Ranch Zinfandel. This bottle was notably better than a bottle consumed 3-4 months ago. This one seemed fresher and, at the same time, better integrated. Really nice bottle.

Haven’t had the ‘17, but the few vintages I have had were fruit forward, pretty good, and meant for early consumption. I SS finitely don’t see them as a buy at their release price but, at the sale price on Last Bottle, they were probably a decent buy for mid-week consumption.

TRB really does write some of the best notes. The NV cab is consistently a solid value buy, and the 2018 version sounds better than ever.

I don’t believe it varies at all. I think it’s always the third Tuesday of July for the cabs, and the third Tuesday of January for the Pinots.
