Re: Outpost Pre-Release

I’m curious if anyone has tasted these. In Galloni’s recent review of the 2018 Howell Mountain cab, he noted it was “marred by distracting smoke notes”, “very hard to taste”, and gave it 79 points. Dunnuck clearly saw things differently.

Re: Week 5 Virtual Tasting Series - Bordeaux - Jud Reis - Kijabe Children’s Education Fund - DEC 23-DEC31

Apologies in advance for posting brief impressions rather than more complete notes. These were served at Christmas dinner, and the focus was much more on the family present than on the wines. 2006 Chateau d’Issan (Margaux) Opened about 2.5 hours before service and double decanted. Re: Decanting question: ‘95 Ducru Beaucaillou & ‘00 Lagrange

Thanks, all. I stood both bottles up more than a month ahead of time. I double-decanted the Ducru-Beaucaillou 4 hrs ahead of serving, and the Lagrange about 3 hrs ahead. Both showed very well, with no funk and terrific complexity. I also opened a 2005 Duhart-Milon and a 2006 d’Issan that night. They...

Thanks for the suggestions so far. More are certainly welcome.

I’m bummed to hear about the barnyard in the Lagrange, as that’s usually a turn-off for me. Hopefully, some of that will blow off or be less prominent in my bottle.

Decanting question: ‘95 Ducru Beaucaillou & ‘00 Lagrange

I’ll be opening both of these bottles for Christmas dinner. I don’t have any previous experience with either of these wines, so I would appreciate any guidance on decanting for each. Will be serving with a 3 lb. tenderloin roast from Flannery.

Thanks in advance!

Dark red fruits on an elegant frame, with a squirt of acidity and just a little of pepper on the finish. The tannins are well behaved at this stage. No need to rush ...

I think this may be my favorite bottle of Scherrer zin ever. Certainly on the young side, but definitely very enjoyable now with more forward fruit than is typical of Fred’s other Zinfandels.
