Re: I guess they don’t want you bringing mags

A lot of places won't let you bring mags at all. The expectation is that you'll bring a bottle (750) and order 1 (or more) from the restaurant list. Keep in mind that booze drives profits so not surprised to hear the markup for a mag is that high.

Really like the Maiden but at $300 it's a likely pass. There must be buyers though. Had the same issue with HSS when it hit $300+.

If anyone wants any Estate or Maiden drop me a note.

I may buy a mag. Went to several different stores around here and mag's are still tough to get. 750's can be had at or below mailing list price but apparently they are stingy with the bigger formats.

Re: 2015 Shafer HSS offer

The pro move for Shafer at this point would be to list the wine at $310 or whatever, but then offer a modest "deal" to their mailing list customers. Buy six, get 15% off and free shipping, or something like that. Now they're paying $263 a bottle, getting in slightly under retail, but Shafer gets to...

I'm looking for opinions on options for wine storage in or around Chicago. I'm in the Kinzie Street Lock-up facility, but they raise my rates about 15% every 8 months. It's ridiculous! So I need to move. I've used Domaine before and moved from there because their prices were extremely high, and I h...

Back when I got first vintage allocation was 2004, 1 vintage, just missed 2003. Missed 2008 and got kicked off and got back on for 2012.
That was pretty much my experience. Missed 1 year and got an offer 2-3 years later.

I like Sycamore Lane Cab. Usually less than 10 bucks but harder to find as they've gone to a different distribution model.

On that same note. I had a wine shipment (2-day service) sit in Pacheco and Oakland over the 13th weekend on it's way to Chicago. I also don't want to kick people while they're down but do speculate about the effects of temperature while it sat for 5 days. This is a high end wine so it will sit in m...
