Hospice du Rhône 2016—Hospice Returns to Paso Robles
After a four-year absence, April 15-16, 2016 marked the return of the Hospice du Rhône wine festival to Paso Roble, California. Having attended several HdR festivals in past years, I was very happy to see HdR return to Paso. This year’s HdR was different for me. Not only did I attend specifically to write this article for Wine Berserkers, but I took a different approach to the wines I tasted.
In the past, I tended to concentrate mostly on red wines, and often from producers I already knew. This year, I tried to concentrate more on white wines and rosé wines. Partly this decision was to force myself to taste through a different set of wines, and partly this decision was to find wines to recommend for the upcoming summer season. In addition, I tried to focus on producers and individual wines that seemed to represent excellent value. While I tasted through the wines of many wineries I knew, I also made an effort to seek out wineries and individual wines I had not previously encountered. Even so, you will see many familiar faces……..
My article will be divided up into individual sections for the different HdR events—the seminars, the grand tastings, etc. You will be able to navigate at the bottom of each section to the next section, or you can go directly to individual sections by following the links below. Although I’ve checked my notes and other information, if you see any typos or any other mistakes, then please send me a note.
