TN: Two Canadians - 2007 Alvento Emilie & 2007 Le Clos Jordanne Chardonnay Talon Ridge

  • 2007 Alvento Emilie - Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Peninsula VQA (1/29/2011)
A wine that still may be too young and needed more air. The nose was strong with red berries. The palate was quite closed down however. Some black fruit was emerging, but the tannins were still blocking everything. Next time, I’ll decant way ahead of time. (88 pts.)

This bottle may have been slightly flawed. There was a distinctive mushroom flavor that one typically sees in well aged Chardonnay, but shouldn’t show up in a wine that’s only three years old. I suspect the bottle was a bit oxydized. However, I looked beyond that and found some good notes of minerals and pears. I have one more bottle and will try that soon to see how it fairs. (87 pts.)
