2007 Southern Rhone dinner

Monthly group wine dinner met at our house this month, theme was 07 Chateauneuf with a few other S. Rhones thrown in. My own scores, though there was pretty good group consensus. Wines were tasted blind:

2007 Cristia CdP - nice medium dark fruit, slightly meaty and chewy, good balance, medium tannins. 92

2007 Cote de l’Ange CdP - Dark cherry, medium ripe fruit, slight woody flavors, good balance but comes across too sweet. “creamy” was one description, which we concluded was from a lack of acidity and tannic structure, combined with the sweetness. 86

2007 Raspail Gigondas - dark flavors, woody, not overripe, but otherwise unimpressive. 87

2007 Vieux Telegraphe - medium body, bit lighter style, very nice depth and intensity of deep cherry fruit, good balancing acidity. Only bottle to be empty at the end of the evening. 93

2007 Vieux Donjon - medium dark color, very ripe nose, medium ripe darker fruit but decent balance, fairly high acid, some meatiness. 89

2007 Hillaire CdP - nice medium dark fruit, good balance, bit lush, some spice, decent balance, medium tannins, but fairly ripe. 87

2007 Les Cailloux CdP (Brunel) - quite lush, medium ripe, bit low acid and tannins. poor showing, I liked this a lot more in another tasting. 87

2007 Saint Cosme Gigondas - very nice medium dark, rich, lush, good balance, moderate acidity, decent structure, some dark earthy flavors on the finish, some spice, pepper. 90

2007 Clos du Caillou “Les Safres” CdP - quite ripe, bit candied, low acid/tannins, disappointing. Another bottle I had liked a lot more in previous tasting (bought from same source). 86

Yes, I know, the wines aren’t ready to drink, can’t really judge them at this stage, yada, yada, so take these notes for what their worth
Cheers

Alan,

I am seeing a theme here with your opinion on 2007 Rhone.

'Zactly.

I will say that I have enjoyed the CdR’s from '07 for everyday drinking and the price point is right.
