The bottom line - so many folks are relatively ‘newbies’ when it comes to wine. Look at all of the ‘clean wine’ pitches. I honestly have no problem with ‘simplifying’ something that may be challenging to say or intimidating. For instance, Ken Volk used to call Mourvedre ‘move over dear’ . . . loved it.
And in all honesty, there are a lot of wines poured in tasting rooms that, to me, taste like ‘$10 wines’ rather than whatever they are charging for them - but folks love the ambience, sales pitch, etc . . .
