WINE INDUSTRY JOB LISTINGS

Want to move your store to sunny Orange County, CA??

We’re thinking about where to add a store…

Rockville?

You might induce them to open in Rockville, Howard, if you offer to work part. Time. [highfive.gif]

Hank [cheers.gif]

No one in their right mind would open a wine shop in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Unfortunately true.

Unfortunately, I have a full time job.

Foursight Wines – a small, 1,500 case winery on an estate vineyard in Anderson Valley – is looking for harvest help. We are a family team looking for one great person who wants to experience every aspect of harvest. We produce mainly Pinot Noir in a very old-world way: no inoculations, hand punch downs in small 1 ton fermentations, stem inclusion, and pressing in a wooden-slatted basket press. Our wines consistently earn top scores and recommendations in publications from the Wall Street Journal to the SF Chronicle, Burghound, Wine Spectator, Wine and Spirits and more.

We are looking, first and foremost, for someone who has a passion for wine, a strong work ethic and the tendency to be a perfectionist. Harvest hours can be long and unpredictable and winemaking is a physical job. If you’re not in good physical shape and can’t lift 50lbs, this may not be the position for you.

The position would have a base hourly salary, housing, and some meals and beverages (wine) provided. It will last from mid-August (starting with bottling) through mid-October (after barreling down the last lot). Tasks will include whatever it takes to produce world-class Pinot Noir, from the vineyard to the winery.

If you are interested in the position PM me with your details.

Howdy -

Enkidu Wine is looking for part-time help pouring wine at our Sonoma Valley tasting room from August through November (and beyond?). Primary responsibilities would include pouring wine for tasting room guests, ringing up orders through our POS system, stocking shelves, packing wine club orders, in addition to providing an enjoyable and educational customer experience.

Hourly wage beginning at $13, and could be higher depending on experience. Employees also receive a generous discount on wine. Hours may vary slightly week to week, and weekend availability is a must. Prior tasting room experience is beneficial, though not mandatory. Resume and cover letter may be sent to me at pmluckin@enkiduwines.com.

Thanks!

Paul

Patricia Green Cellars

Looking for bottling and harvest help.

Seeking one full-time and possibly one part-time/on-call person.

We are a medium-sized producer of around 10,000 cases consisting nearly entirely of Pinot Noir. Wines are of exceptional quality however the facility leaves things to be desired which makes the work more difficult than in other locations. Long days of standing on concrete sorting fruit, driving folklift (no experience necessarily required although that certainly does not hurt), cleaning up, punching down, moving stuff around and cleaning up (it’s in there twice for a reason) take their toll on even hearty, fit and experienced individuals so decent physical strength and mental fortitude are excellent attributes to bring to the table. Days can be long and in general a 7 day/week schedule can be expected for the better part of a month beginning in mid- to late-September. Bottling and training to start in the latter part of August/earlier part of September.

We are located several miles from any actual town (about 8 miles from Newberg, Carlton, Lafayette, Gaston and Dundee) and 30 miles from downtown Portland. We do not have the ability to offer any type of housing unless you are particularly keen on a tent. Pay is hourly with time and a half as required (starting wage would be negotiable based on experienced and qualifications but don’t have grand expectations as to what that starting wage is going to be). Meals and beverages are pretty much provided. Work atmosphere is generally pretty casual and at times even a bit jovial and there is certainly no dress code beyond the necessities of waterproof footwear and layered, water-wickable clothing conducive to cold early mornings that segue into warm, sunny afternoons.

Depending on what harvest looks like there could be a second job for a part-time/on-call person to work on particularly busy days. This job would almost uniformly be in the area of sorting fruit and cleaning up. Past harvests have yielded around 10-12 days worth of work spread out over the first two to three weeks of harvest. This is oft times more about finding the right person to fit into a completely unstructured schedule doing the most monotonous of jobs. People with incredibly flexible schedules of some sort work best here. No guarantees about this as it is utterly dependent upon how harvest looks like it will shake out and what our labor demands will end up being.

This is a pretty good harvest gig. You get treated well as long as you show up on time, work hard, have a good attitude and don’t break anything really expensive. Broadly speaking, this would not be the most amazing learning-on-the-job situation one could ever find in the wine industry beyond seeing how a rustic operation can operate efficiently and effectively.

For further information or to send a resume please email pgcwinery@netzero.com. Please do not call the winery regarding this matter.

Patricia Green Cellars is looking for full and part time workers for the 2016 harvest. It is early in the year to begin this search or for folks to consider this job. However, in 2015 three of the six positions we hired for were filled by out of state folks on a break from their real jobs. We have between four and six positions available.

At least one of those we are looking solely for a person who will work basically for two weeks at the height of harvest. The job requires the flexibility to be able to begin work when we will know when those two weeks are which is generally only about two weeks before we would need someone to start. The position almost solely is pigeaging (getting into our fermentations in lieu of punching them down). Person must be physically fit, energetically positive, hygienic, at least somewhat uninhibited and okay with a decent amount of working largely on their own. Their may be two of these positions open but that is too early to decide at this juncture.

Other positions are normal harvest and (potentially) bottling positions. Sorting fruit and cleaning stuff up are largely the order of the day. People must be physically fit, have strong work ethics, take direction very well, have the ability and capacity to work 60-80 hour weeks, have at least 1 month available, have some form of social skills that allow them to work within the context of a team and an interest in the wine business is a plus but this is not a teaching winery so if you are seeking a place that will explain winemaking this is not the right situation. Fork lift driving experience is a massive plus.

Jobs pay $13/hour plus overtime. Food and beverages are provided. We are mostly in the middle of nowhere so having a place to stay/live and a form of transportation is a must. Patricia Green Cellars is an EOE and we basically don’t care about anything other than that you can do the job we have described. The work is not easy, not incredibly rewarding in the here and now and is extremely repetitive so think carefully about this before applying.
