I will say that the first Grunewald auction provided me with a whole lot of outstanding wines. Literally every bottle has been in perfect shape. Every one. If we’re having a wine dinner, I always bring them with confidence. 10/18/2008 has always been an all star day in my CellarTracker date purchased column.

will Grunewald confirm that all wine sold at this auction is indeed his stock? Or does one just trust Kapon?

I have no idea. Just throwing out my data point with respect to Grunewald. The wines from his first auction have been very good.

I thought I would bump this thread, as Mr. Cornwell mentioned that a lot had to be withdrawn from the auction for being an obvious fake: Kapon - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers.

If I recall correctly, the lots were priced as if they had perfect provenance or close to it. Without maligning Mr. Grunewald or any posters who were helpful enough to offer information in this thread, it appears provenance was not uniformly perfect.

So was every one of Rudy’s fakes! Never a bad or tired bottle reported in all those grand tastings.
