TN: 2012 UGC Bordeaux Tasting, San Francisco

Just to be clear, the Doisy Daene is excellent for 2012, but certainly not better and likely a step worse than other vintages of Doisy Daene. It may be smarter to put your money towards the 2011 Doisy Daene, which is cheap and excellent.

Also, 2013 may be terrible for red bordeaux, but it’s supposed to be good for sauternes! I’m looking forward to trying those next year.

I went to the tasting in NYC. I thought some of the wines were very solid and buys depending on the pricing. Standouts for me were:

Les Carmes Haut-Brion
Larrivet Haut-Brion
Smith Haut Lafite
Troplong Mondot
Cantenac Brown
Malescot
Leoville Barton
D’Armailhac
Grand-Puy Lacoste
Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

I tried only the Doisy Daene, Climens and Guiraud, but the DD was my least favorite. I have basically zero experience with Sauterne though.
