TN: 2002 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses

I was served the 02 Picasses blindly last night and it was an outstanding bottle. Many of us thought it was Burgundy – from a warm year like 09, perhaps, I thought. Some people got some barnyard; I didn’t. Some tannin but really silky in the mouth, with lots of ripe fruit. I thought Burgundy at first but then wondered if it might be a Copain or Littorai single vineyard pinot given the fruit. No cab franc notes at all; no greenness. Great balance.

This was decanted just a few minutes ahead.
