To pile on a bit - Salon from 82-90 has plenty of oxidation and very advanced aging issues and it isn’t limited to US stock.
Krug is definitely made in a more oxidative style than most other houses but DP isn’t. If you have had young oxidized DP, it was stored under a heat lamp.
It’s a pretty open secret amongst folks ITB that a substantial portion of USA-channel champagne from that era was badly heat-damaged somewhere along the way [either in transit, or in a warehouse, or both].
You don’t have to be ITB to know about that issue. However, Salon’s issues from that decade go beyond that. I’ve encountered plenty of oxidized bottles of Salon that were purchased in Europe.
For a while, I was on a string of having NEVER had a good bottle of Salon from the 80s, until a recent bottle of 1985 that was correct and stunning. The 88s have been the worst for me.
