TN:1990 Salon Champagne (faulty)

To pile on a bit - Salon from 82-90 has plenty of oxidation and very advanced aging issues and it isn’t limited to US stock.

Krug is definitely made in a more oxidative style than most other houses but DP isn’t. If you have had young oxidized DP, it was stored under a heat lamp.

It’s a pretty open secret amongst folks ITB that a substantial portion of USA-channel champagne from that era was badly heat-damaged somewhere along the way [either in transit, or in a warehouse, or both].

You don’t have to be ITB to know about that issue. However, Salon’s issues from that decade go beyond that. I’ve encountered plenty of oxidized bottles of Salon that were purchased in Europe.

I feel vary fortunate to have escaped this issue with both Salon and Krug from 82-90 with one exception, a 90` Salon. Never with DP nor Krug.

Yup, these came from Europe on the gray market, Sherry with bubbles

For a while, I was on a string of having NEVER had a good bottle of Salon from the 80s, until a recent bottle of 1985 that was correct and stunning. The 88s have been the worst for me.

Nathan is infamous for claiming every imported wine is heat damaged.
