Dan. I agree, although the only one I have had is La Kiuva Arnad Montjovet Valle d’Aosta. I liked it a lot.
The Nebbiolos (Picotendro) from the Val d’Aosta can be very/very good…though frightfully difficult to find.
They remind me more of Valtelline Nebbs than anything.
There is a small valley, known as Val d’Ossola, that sticks up from Piemonte into the Vd’A. They make
a Nebb (which is called Prunent here) that is amazingly good. Available from WineMongers from
Cantina Garrone. We served it at our recent NEB#7 and it was a big hit.
Nebbiolo isn’t just Barolo/Barbaresco anymore.

La Prevostura produces excellent and quite cheap wines.

La Prevostura Coste della Sesia Corinna Rosato 2014 : 14,5/20
Magnifique rosé, avec de la chair, du répondant. De la fraise et une belle acidité.
La Prevostura Coste della Sesia Corinna Rosato 2013 : 15,5/20
Original et puissant avec de l’écorce d’orange. Un rosé de garde (comme le Cerasuolo de Valentini ou le rosé provençal du Château Simone).
La Prevostura Coste della Sesia Garsun 2013 : 14/20
Poivré, végétal (trop de Vespolina selon notre hôte). Ici aussi, le pineau d’Aunis ligérien me vient à l’esprit. La matière s’avère malheureusement trop souple, peu concentrée.
La Prevostura Coste della Sesia Muntacc 2011 : 15,5/16
Mandarine, épices, quinquina, fraise. Agréable personnalité pour une matière sapide, riche mais équilibrée.
La Prevostura Bramaterra 2001 : 16/20
Le profil est nettement plus terrien (dans le sol), avec de la jacinthe. Belle expression, relativement riche également, séveuse, virile, sauvage. Rugueux mais pas si rustique.
La Prevostura Lessona 2011 : 17/20
Excellente production sur ce Lessona, tout en goût, aérien. Fraîcheur fruitée, floralité et finesse de trame sont là pour nous régaler sans réserve.
Yesterday, I opened an excellent Muntacc 2011 (16,5/17), very Haut-Piémont : fruity, flowery, very sapid with classy powdery tannins
I’ve had some great Travaglini’s and some rather mediocre bottlings. That said, because of the annoying bottle shape and size, which won’t fit in my cellar, I don’t buy them anymore.
