What’s the latest thinking on the safety with the use of plastic in a high temperature environment? The reports seem to be all over the place.
The Johnson Company (makers of Ziploc brand) apparently indicated that it has not been tested. Other information suggests that a BPA free, Polyethylene-Low Density plastic is fine for the water temps for sous-vide cooking.
Foodsaver bags available at Costco and online http://www.foodsaver.com/bags-and-rolls are BPA free. The food savers themselves aren’t great (only last a couple hunting seasons) but their bags are fine.
I also think it’s much easier to use than the new one. Kinda regret getting rid of my old one for the new one. I do like the ability to set time/temp on my phone, but it was just as easy to set the time/temp on the screen of the old one opposed to the confusing ass system of the new one.
right now they are doing some interesting things though. There was an update today that Serious Eats is going to doing a lot of recipes for them for the app. Which is nice
Anyone heard of any new deals on Anova or Sansaire or other reputable brand of immersion circulators? I’m all set with 3, but I have a friend in the market for one and I was hoping to direct him to something better than full price.
Chris - I saw your thread and it looks nice. But, I was telling him how they’ve come down in price so far that you can find them for $100 or so. Turns out, those were the sale prices we all jumped on last year. Now, prices are back up. But, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before another sale comes along.
It will be interesting to see if the Joule can command a relative premium price after January 15. I imagine the next generation of all the competitors will be fairly similar when they update their products.
