2009 Chateau Gloria Saint-Julien

Chateau Gloria, for as long as I can remember, has always over-delivered. Great memories of 1970, 1975. 1978, 1982, and down the line.
I was reminded of a similar chateau after trying the 2009 Duhart-Milon on 8/19. It might be slightly more pricey than Gloria but, IMHO, at a slightly higher quality level. I can recall really fine examples from the top vintages going back to 1982. The 2009 is tasting great after 2 days of being open and, I suspect, will be really nice 10-15 years from now. Can probably be had for $50 a bottle.

Blake is on point, an excellent Gloria. Doesn’t show some of the heat of 09, but definitely has an approachability about it. Gave it an hour decant. Nose remained muted but the palate is excellent. Ranges more on the dark side of fruit, some seared meat, with lovely chalky, sweet tannins. I’m grabbing more. Have lots of 2010, but it needs much more time.

Interesting. What was the first vintage that was affected by this change?

Anybody?
