Martin,
Thank you for posting this list. years ago, on the Wine Pages forum, you posted a similar list, and it was very helpful to my wife and I when we visited Berlin approximately one year ago.
We managed to nab a weekday lunch (thurs.?) at La Soupe Populaire without a reservation, and were impressed with the food.
Hot Spot was “good” — the food was o.k., but the wine list is very impressive.
You (or somebody else) recommended a Vietnamese restaurant called Monsieur Vuong (iirc) — both my wife and I thought it was fantastic — excellent food and service! This was probably our favorite meal spot during our long weekend there.
Finally, we had a very nice dinner at Rotisserie Weingrün — I recall having a veal dish, whereas my wife had a fish dish; both were cooked perfectly.
An interesting list - thanks. I will be visiting Berlin over the Christmas holidays with my wife. Do the Berlin based members have an additions to make to the list of Martin Zwick above?
it is such a dynamic city right now regarding restaurants&winebars&wineshops. Around 5-10 years it was quite different. Also such many little food shops from young people. No doubt, Berlin is worth a trip.
We had already booked Nobelhart&Schmutzig for our first night, quite a while ago, as they have a BYO system in place, it seems. They now have a michelin star as well, apparently.
Any tips regarding the following:
nice wine bars?
a nice tip for a restaurant for NYE? We are not really planning to celebrate, as we want get up early on 1 Jan to go for a walk in the city. It looks like a lot of restaurants offer a special menu for NYE (wines included), which always seems a bit of a rip-off. We are looking for something good but basic, where they will not expect us to stay until after midnight and drink cheap bubbles
