Denver to aspen

Apologies if this has been covered before but looking for tips on where to stop to buy decent wine on the way from the airport in Denver to aspen. Particularly looking for a good place for champagne and burgundy! Will have family and it will be very late for us given time zone difference so needs to be as close to directly on the route as possible. It will be late Saturday afternoon/early evening but presumably that doesn’t affect the answer?

Any tips gratefully received as if imagine buying in aspen is a very bad idea!

Try these guys. Right off I-70 on the west side of Denver. You will drive right past them on your way into the mountains.

Not sure about Burgundy, but have a nice supply of decent Champers.

All are right off the route from Denver to Aspen, all great folks.

Great recs from Ed. There’s also a new wine store right next to Whole Foods in Basalt, right off of Highway 82, but I can’t remember the name. And call Rhonda at the Catherine Store before you get there as she keeps most of “the good stuff” in a nearby warehouse.

Guys,

Many, many thanks. I think I’ll call ahead and have a care package ready on arrival!

Adding to above:

Also right off 70 in Dillon/Silverthorne: http://dillonridgeliquors.com

And in Frisco, cool wine shop owned by a woman from SF: http://www.friscowine.com

There are a number of good places to buy wine in Aspen. I will admit I have not been in three or four years but I recall there being at least two good shops and one competent shop.

I will second Avon Liquor. Of late their selection has far outpaced Beaver Liquors. Applejack has been mentioned previously, mega store with decent burg selection but champagne choices are pretty limited IMHO. You may want to consider Mondo Vino in Denver, www.mondovinodenver.com
