Learning French in Burgundy

Hi all,

I have two week break coming up, I’m trying to find a good way to spend it. One idea I had is to go to Burgundy, rent a nice place for two weeks, and spend my days taking French classes (don’t know a lick of it right now) in the day and drinking wine at night.

I’m looking for:

  1. general feedback on whether this is a good idea or just plain dumb.
  2. if good, any recs on where to stay (general location/town or specific places) and where I can take some French classes. I have googled both but always helpful to get firsthand recs.
  3. what else I could do there, vineyard/domaines to visit, places to eat, etc. I realize this is well-covered in the forum and have read some of the other threads, but if anyone is feeling charitable and wants to make an introduction to somewhere specific… [cheers.gif]

Timing would be early-mid September. I’ve traveled alone before so no worries on that front. I’m happy to improvise, so not looking to map out all the details, but I do like to go in with some big picture plans in my head. Budget-wise, I am absolutely happy to stay in a hostel, but also wouldn’t mind a nice B&B or maybe a studio apartment, etc. Not looking for 2 weeks in the Four Seasons though.

Thanks in advance!
Sam

Just be careful you don’t pick up the Burgundian accent. Though it isn’t that prevalent anymore…(Jean Grivot was alway my poster child for it)…it will mark you.

Renting a gite rurale is always an option, though the harvest could pose competition for such places. http://www.gites-de-france-bourgogne.com/
