Alaska via anchorage, Fairbanks , and homer.

Planning to fly into anchorage over Labor Day and stay two weeks. Want to divide my time between things accessible from anchorage, Fairbanks, and homer/Seward.

I will stay an equal or more or less time in each.

We plan to do mostly outdoor hiking / less than touristy type days. We are fine with getting off the beaten path and roughing it.

Any suggestions on places to stay or things to do?

Denali is probably top of the list. End of the salmon runs so maybe halibut fishing.

If driving to homer then stop in the TINY Russian orthodox fishing town of Ninilchik to strech your legs.

Mosquitoes are world class athletes there so deet is your best friend.

I think the main attraction in Seward is the fjords, never done it myself.

In Fairbanks you can watch the sunset and sunrise for 4 hours straight as the sun skims along the horizon at this time of year.

I have been to Alyeska a couple of times . . . amazing spot.

Alyeska is owned by a pretty savvy wine guy . . . and the restaurant has quite a few
interesting wines.

Second Alyeska,We just came back from Alaska,Denali is also a must do.
Besides hiking you may want to explore by sea and air also. The sea planes were so much fun,Canoeing and Kayaking are also great ways to explore there.have a great time.it is so beautiful there.
