Sxsw? I'll be at Interactive

Anyone want to try and get a casual OL going?

Might be there. I should know in the next week or so. I’d be game!

Cool. Never been to Austin, so I have no idea if a real OL is possible–maybe just find a place with a decent wine list for a splurge…

I’ve been the last few years, and while wine has never been too much of a focus, I know a few spots where we could probably BYO.

Total OL virgin here, but if the scheduling works out, I’d be down to participate in something casual.

Note that due to onerous TX regulations, restaurants that are licensed to serve liquor can’t let you BYO.

Good to know. I’ll start asking around about restaurants and if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Fine to do something very casual.

I have never been to an offline, but would love to go if there is room. If you are looking for BYO places in Austin, Braise is one of the better restaurants that allows BYO. They have something like $15 or $20 corkage but they waive corkage if you purchase one of their bottles also. I would be happy to try and set it up if people are interested…

Interested…as long as it can fall on a Saturday.

I’m pretty flexible from Friday to Tuesday. There’re a shit-ton of partys and other events going on all the time and I feel justified in missing a few to get together with some Berserkers.

Can we get a table anywhere with so many visitors in town for the the conference?

Am flying out in the morning, so I was wondering if I should try and pack a bottle or two. If not, still happy to get together on a more ad hoc basis…

Can we decide on a day?

Saturday seemed best for all…but anything from Fri-Mon works for me

Hey guys,

I am back living in Austin again and will be around. Happy to join in the fun if plans materialize.

For BYO- Chez Nous downtown is a good choice. Outstanding casual French bistro. If we get a party of 6 or more we can book a reservation in advance- which is highly advisable with SXSW going on.

A very quick cab ride from downtown which will be a little quieter and more relaxed is Fabi and Rosi. They do BYO as well and will not be nearly as slammed with SXSW traffic. That would be my suggestion. David- have never been to Braise, but heard good things. I would be up for that if others are.

Uchi and Uchicko are going to be madhouses between SXSW and the Top Chef win.

Anyhow- let me know if you guys want to do something. I have limited things on hand right now in the wine fridge at the house- mostly young ones to evaluate for future tasting plans. Have several 2008 and 2009 Niellons on hand, 2009 Prum GK Auslesen and 2009 Jadot Clos des Ursules off the top of my head. Happy to bring anything you guys want to try.

Tom.

I ended up leaving the wine at home in absence of a plan (and in presence of too much other stuff to bring), but happy to get together as well.

No worries- I will be driving so drinking very little- as in equivalent of 2 four ounce glasses the entire evening at most. Unless you guys want to tie one on I don’t think we will need a ton of wine.

Also, wanted to post my Sunday and Monday evening are now spoken for as of this afternoon. Still free tomorrow night or Tuesday. I usually get done with work around 4:30, so either day I can do some carpooling for out-of-towners.

Hey all,

With Ken’s blessing I have taken on the task of getting things set for tomorrow night. Reservations were hard to come by- there was one table left at Fabi and Rosi for tomorrow (Saturday night) at 6:30PM and it is reserved in my name. We can have anywhere from 2-4 people total- so with Ken and I in, that is up to 2 more people max we can add. Apologies for this- late notice plus it being SXSW makes it tough to have many options. Hopefully there will be room for all who want to come.

I will now send a PM to everyone who posted interest in this thread, and first two responders by 2PM EST tomorrow are in- I will need to let the restaurant know by mid afternoon what our final tally is on people.

If PMing please let me know too if you are bringing wine. Not expecting out of town guests to have things in hand- Austin is your host on wine tomorrow! Please just let me know either way so I know how many bottles to bring.

Also- please let me know of any special requests or dislikes between young Niellon, young Prum or young Jadot. If we get 4 I might bring a 1989 Texas Cabernet along as well- a very good one. Lots of bottle variation, but the old Texas Cabs from good producers can be surprisingly good.
