WineFest IV--Help Me Depressurize the Cellar--July 9, 2016 in Toronto (109 wines to be opened)

So. Long before there was BerserkerFest. Long before there was Wine Berserkers at all, there was…WineFest.

This is the fourth iteration of my quadrennial cellar depressurization event and I am planning on opening about 30% of the cellar in ONE DAY for friends and family. I am prepared to open up 15 spots to the WB community at large. If you do want to come, reply on this thread and then PM me your email address so I can get you more particulars. If you’d plan to come with a SO, then state that right at the outset. First come, first served, but I’d want people to be committed to being able to make it if they put themselves on the list. And if I’ve emailed you already, then you’re invited and DON’T NEED to add yourself to the list.

Speaking of lists, here is the list of wines I will be serving, by table:

These have always been some of the great days of my life, shared with family and friends. I expect no less this time around.

A bientot, j’espere.

Mike

Wow…if I was going to be in Toronto around then I’d be there in a heartbeat. Instead it’ll be next week and then in the fall.

Why don’t I stop by and help you test some of these wines while I am in Toronto at the end of May?

July 6 is Rebecca’s very significant milestone birthday so we may be elsewhere, but if not, Toronto is looking like a destination.

Chuckle, would be an honour to have you both, my man of brisket. Why not celebrate here

Michael, sad to say, have to keep the wines where they are. But do PM me, may be a chance to get together with our group here.

Adam, sorry missed you last week, but perhaps in the fall? (I’m guessing the visiting is holiday-related)

Mike

Yeah, that was a pretty packed visit outside of working hours. Might be up there again Aug/Sep, we’ll see.

Rebecca starts a Murder 1 trial on July 11. She reports that me being in the house for the weekend before the trial starts will be of no benefit to her. Thus, I am looking at a bachelor’s weekend in Toronto. I cannot absolutely commit, which is the rule, but if we get closer and there is still space available, I am better than 50-50 to grab it.

Just over 2 weeks away. The fridge has all sorts of holes in it now as I’m starting to stage the wines up to my folks’ place. [grin.gif]

Still welcome to come if you want to post here.

Mike

We still haven’t booked a hotel yet. Is anyone staying downtown with a car that can give us a ride? If not, I’ll book closer to the event venue. [basic-smile.gif]

Hey Mike: It is one whole day after your event…I was expecting your notes to be posted! [rofl.gif] [rofl.gif]

How did things go?

Cheers!
Marshall [berserker.gif]

Yes, I’m really curious about the '06 Navarro Structura Ultra. One of my all-time favorites, but I ran out about two years ago…

Notes! Notes!

So bummer I couldn’t make it :frowning:(

It was nice to see Mike again. A great host. He opened his parents home to 50+ multiple people. A special thank you to Lillian and Jerry for being so gracious. They were fun to talk to!

I finally met Tran, Humberto, Back Road Bob (love that moniker), and Loren and his wife Jane. Boy. She really knows her stuff. She told Bob a wine was shut down; and when Bob doubted her (he drank some earlier), he re-tasted. Bob agreed that the wine was shut down. The fun part for me was that she was so insistent, and was correct. Gotta love the passion.

Mike organized tables featuring various types of wines. The Dumol ‘Girls’, California reds, CdP, Ontario wines, and my favorite of the day, French sweeties. It was liberating for me not to take any notes, so please don’t ask me for a comparision of any of the vintages, and if they were 375’s or 750. I’m smart enough to know that after Mike gets back to normal, notes will appear.

Added enhancement > Mike plays the piano!!

P.S. to Jay Hack. I need a new Berserker pin. Seems I left mine with our host. [wink.gif]

Thanks ever so much for the invite. Janice and I will see you in 2020.

Dan

You guys are funny. I hope to get a chunk of the notes up today. Dan, was so happy to have you and Janice come and meet so many. We ended up with about 80 people all told.

I was most thankful that the rain stayed off our heads. Yes, Mark, bummer you couldn’t come, hopefully in 2020. Ditto for you guys, Marshall.

I will post the link to the notes here—and will probably have some “splinter cell” TN threads, as I am guessing some people might like to look at e.g. just the Kutch McDougall vertical or the Meursault horizontal. Patience

Mike

OK, wise guys. TNs are up for what I’ve tasted so far.

Sorry we couldn’t make it.
Looks like we really missed a great event.
Thanks for the invite, Mike.
