San Francisco: Tuesday 3/15- Bubbles and Nebbiolo

Hi San Fran berserkers,

My friend and I will be in town for our first WSET exam and wouldn’t mind meeting up with a few people. While I don’t know what restaurants are negotiable on corkage, I’m hoping that we can get a group of 8 together for some Bubbles and Nebbiolo.

Anyone interested?

Not sure if I can make the 15th, but will try to give suggestions on venues since I have organized a few offlines in SF over the years.

In no particular order:

  1. The Palace steak house = great fixed 5-course menu, $50 for the food + $15 / per bottle corkage, no limit, stems are so-so though (we usually bring our own). http://www.thepalacesf.com/ — UGH scratch this, they are now closed Mondays and Tuesdays :frowning:
  2. Zazie = good neighborhood french bistro, free corkage on Tuesday, no limit, glassware is so-so. http://www.zaziesf.com/
  3. Alegria’s = very good Spanish food, $10 per bottle corkage, no limit (call though and confirm). Glasses are so-so. http://www.alegriassf.com/ - UGH again closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
  4. Bella’s Trattoria = very good Italian restaurant, $10 corkage unlimited but only if you have Ashish in your party (he knows the owner). He is a frequent poster, just search for “Sauternes”… http://bellatrattoriasf.com/

That’s it for now. Our main to go restaurants are The Palace, Bella’s and Zazie. Unfortunately The Palace is closed on Tuesdays. There are a ton of other restaurants in SF, however most of them will have 2 bottle corkage limits especially the good ones (and very high corkage prices as well). I still listed 2 restaurants that are closed Mondays and Tuesdays just in case your date changes. You can still try calling other restaurants though and negotiating corkage fees, however I suggest not calling the most famous/most in-demand ones, I’m pretty sure they will decline as these are booked full everyday (i.e State Bird). Also all places with really low corkage and or free corkage will likely have so so glasses (thick rimmed glasses).

I also made a reservation for 8 people, 7:45 pm in Zazie just in case you needed it. It can be cancelled within 48 hours from reservation date.

I would be interested

I can’t make it that day, unfortunately, but I wanted to chime in to say that unfortunately The Palace is closed for a year due to a fire.

Sounds like a great dinner though! Zazie’s is awesome. Have fun!

sounds great, but I don’t think I can swing 2 offlines, on Tuesdays no less, in one month. But I do love bubbles, so if you can twist my arm I might find a way.

Doesn’t look like this is pushing through, I’ll cancel the Zazie reservation

Thanks Joel. I meant to get in touch with you about that, but I’ve been in hard core study mode.

I’ll be back in June (and many times after that) and try again then.
