Inspired by this thread (Where is the best place to find a wine tasting group/club? - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers), I was wondering if there may be similar interest in LA for a group that would meet approx. 1x/month to focus on bottles in the $30-$60 range. There’d also be room for occasional cheapie themes (Baudry, Clos Roche Blanche, Bourgogne, Muscadet, whatever) and maybe even pooling resources for a “Junior” Baller Wines night. Whatever folks are looking for.
Let me know if any interest.

I actually live in Baldwin Hills Estates, near La Brea, so am not too far. I don’t think I can obligate to a regular group, but am always up for an off-line. Especially if it were quasi-baller.
Great - welcome aboard. We’re getting closr to a solid number so let’s see if we get any more takers and then set up a date for first get together. Looking fwd.
Looks like there’s some interest, Levi - maybe we should start talking dates. I’m going to be out of town until the 18th - so anytime after that would work for me…
Also…are we going to open this up to spouses, etc - and any volunteers to host (I can do it if we have no more than a dozen people or so)?
I’m out of town the last weekend of the month, so how about the 20/21/22 time-frame? My wife is a wino too…but getting a sitter is always a crap shoot for us.
Chris - how old is/are your kid/s? We have a 8 year old - if we do it at a reasonable hour, we could potentially host a play-date as well…only grape juice for them, tho.
We could also keep it as adults-only - but I just hate to see the wino wives left out (mine has already invited herself)!
My wife is not drinking nowadays, so I’ll likely be flying solo for a while. But I think spouses who are passionate about wine should be welcome. Seems like a good rule of thumb should be that the “price of admission” is 1 bottle per person, but let me know what you guys think.
Re: date: how about 8/20 or 8/22? I have a slight preference for 8/22 (and wknds generally) bc my work schedule is unpredictable.
Re: venue: what do folks think about doing the first meeting at a restaurant? Marvin allows unlimited corkage at $20 per bottle so that could be a good venue if we go that route. Otherwise, if doug doesn’t mind hosting the inaugural event that works too.
