Jacksonville, FL Restaurant Reccos needed

Probably going down to Jacksonville to take a client out to dinner in late Feb. Would love recommendations for good, highend place. If that doesn’t work, then what’s the best steakhouse in the area?

Not sure what you have in mind by ‘high end’. but I like this place: http://www.bistrox.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Tasty ‘upscale bistro’ menu, decent California-centric wine list, $15 corkage.

Thanks Robert, I’ve heard this bistro being mentioned before.

Where are you staying? I’m in Jacksonville and will compile a list for you…

Kirby, not sure on the hotel. I think we’re staying at a hotel by the airport. But that shouldn’t limit the options. We’ll take cabs around.

Plan is to fly in, do dinner, then fly out the next morning.

Azurea= Right on the ocean (Atlantic Beach) and part of a neighborhood that has 10-15 restaurants and bars. http://www.oneoceanresort.com/dining/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In the same area but casual - Ragtime - Mezza Luna - Sundog Diner - Sliders (seafood)

More upscale: Mathews in San Marco - http://www.matthewsrestaurant.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Bistro Aix

13 Gypsies - http://www.13gypsies.com/" onclick=“window.open(this.href);return false;
bb’s - http://www.bbsrestaurant.com/aboutus.htm” onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No killer steak houses - there is a Ruths Chris on the river and a Mortons around the corner.

Very Casual - Clarks Fish Camp in Mandarin - King Size prime rib that hangs over a a very large plate. Lots of atmosphere and a great time.

Let me know if you need any more info. And enjoy your trip.

Salt at the Ritz on Amelia Island is also an option. I’ve been a couple of times and it was pretty good. Not a lot of choices for high end restaurants around Jacksonville. Amelia is just north of Jacksonville and about as close to the airport as downtown.

I think there are better options in Ponte Vedra than Jax proper FWIW.

John,

what do you recommend in Ponte Vedro? My client’s office is about 11 or 12 miles south of J’ville proper. Basically about 8 miles due west of PV Beach.

Kirby,

Which do you prefer between Bisto Aix, Matthew’s and BB’s? Seems like the San Marco area is where the nicer restaurants are located in J’ville.

Thanks.

Here is what I posted “elsewhere”:

“Casual and also decent is The Bridge, though I would bring wine. Barbara Jean’s is a chain but has solid, albeit simple food. For breakfast before golf check out Beaches Diner- they have fantastic French Toast and other excellent stuff. You can head a little further up Butler BLVD to the big shopping center for all the chain places (although there is a Ruth’s Chris not far from TPC, as well as a Roy’s).”

Expanding on these recommendations in Ponte Vedra:
Andiamo
Bistro AIX
Caps
Medure
Dwight’s

In this order:

Mathews (sister restaurant Medures in Ponte Vedra)
Bistro Aix
bb’s

What do you know about La Cena?

La Cena…gotta plead ignorant. It may be gone.
Check out this blog - http://www.cari-vicarious.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - may give you some more ideas.

For me,
The best places in Jax/PVB are as follows:

Restaurant Medure
Restaurant Orsay
Matthew’s

thanks guys. we’ve decided on Matthew’s. How’s the pricing on his winelist? Looking online and no prices are shown.

Matthews prices are pretty low for a high end restaurant. Last time I was there there were some pretty good deals. Happy hunting!

Looking for updated recs since this thread is 6 years old. May have to go to JAX for one night in a couple weeks. Will dine alone and want good wine. Thoughts on any/all of the following: Orsay, Hobnob, Kitchen on San Marco, Bistrot AIX? Additional options?

Scott,
I live in Jax Beach. LMK if you wanna meet up!

J

I ended up not going to the meetings (which were on Wednesday), but there may be other opportunities. Will let you know!
