I haven’t bought new pans in years. My current 10" non-stick has basically lost its non-stick surface after more years than I can recall. So time to buy some new ones.
I’m looking for a new 10" and 12" non-stick pans.
I have no idea who makes good ones and who doesn’t these days so any help is appreciated. That said, I don’t need a $500 pan, LOL. Just something good for daily house use.
I view non-stick pans as disposable and don’t spend much money on them. I’ve been happy with Calphalon picked up cheap at Marshall’s, and they’ve held up very well.
I’ve been buying Vollrath pans in various sizes from WebRestautantStore for the last few go-rounds, which, as Charlie says, is just how it goes with non-stick. Use and toss after they get worn down.
Well, there is some evidence that it can be carcinogenic when it starts to break down which it will do at high temps - 450-500º. And a related compound, PFOA is VERY carcinogenic and though it’s use has been discontinued by most manufacturers it is present in the tissue of something like 98% of humans due to it’s nearly infinite persistence in the environment.
Better living through chemistry! Especially halogens!
Owned a few of the T-fal pans and they do perform nicely. After about two years the 12 inch skillet warped on the bottom. Picked up the OXO Good Grips pan last year and it has been a solid performer: Amazon.com
Yeah the current wisdom is definitely to toss the non stick unit every year or two. I recommend ceramics like the other guys they hold up better. I have cast and enameled too, but a non stick is very handy.
