Evolution of Mosel Rieslings

Hello!

My wife and I have been collecting German rieslings since 2005 vintage. Neither of us have a lot of experience with older rieslings. In our opinion, how would you describe the lifestages of a great mosel spatlese?

Thank you in advance!

A well made Mosel Riesling Spätlese in the traditional fruity style from a good producer should have a good aging potential, as long it is stored properly. I have 40 year old Spätlese in my cellars and just recently I openend a 1973 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese at home. The wine was gorgeous! Sure the wine is changing in his character with age and shows the typical matured aromas of an aged Riesling, sometimes champignons or ‘sous bois’ (forest aromas), Cassis, as the wine is going to taste much drier as in his youth.
But storage plays the key role of aging. As cooler and as less temperature fluctuations, as longer the wine will keep! The opposit will let a wine age very fast and let the wine oxidize.
