Grapevine Red Blotch

Anyone on the board seeing it in your vineyards yet? Are any of you concerned about it?

I was speaking with a prominent researcher last week and he suggested that this was widely spread throughout Napa Valley.

There have been a few stories in the wine press about it in the last month. Have not seen it up close though it looks to have similar effects on the vine as leaf roll.

It looks like you need to fertilize to keep the canopy as green as you can for as long as you can to promote photosynthesis and ripening. Once the canopy gets to red sugars and flavors don’t seem to continue to increase. Calicum phosphorus and or zinc should help but it looks like its fighting a loosing battle. At some point replanting may be the only way to get rid of it. Not sure how well it moves thru blocks lets hope not well at all.
