Austin, TX

For a standard on the information given, please provide the following at minimum:

  1. Restaurant name
  2. Corkage policy
  3. Status of stemware
  4. Address and/or website

The State of Texas says no BYOB in any restaurant that has full bar service. If a restaurant serves only wine and beer they can decide whether to offer BYOB. This is why there are so few restaurants with BYOB because most have full bar service.

Hi Shannon- Mirabelle has reopened under new ownership as Bistrot Mirabelle. They have a liquor license now, so no BYO.

Yep. A recent visit proved to be minus BYOB plus forgettable mediocre food.

Just added in Sway, a Thai restaurant recently voted one of the top 50 restaurants in the US by Bon Appetit (FWIW). Very good food but some of the dishes are VERY spicy and might destroy your good wines.

Hi there. We’re visiting A-town this coming weekend and wondering if this list has changed…

Thinking about Fabi + Rossi Thursday (no OpenTable; walk-ins only). Odd Duck Friday (sadly, no BYO at the new, formal location if I recall correctly), and Lenoir Saturday.

Be well and cheers,

Jeremy

UPDATE

We had supper at Asti, Fabi and Rosi, and Lenoir. All allowed BYO and none charged us corkage.

oskiwawa and sourdough ate at this place not long ago. Small corkage https://qualityseafood.wordpress.com/

I struck Olivia from the list. They have their liquor license now and have gone all mixology. They still have a nice wine list but no longer allow corkage (by law).

Adding Barlata to the list. Very good food but strongly flavored if you are thinking wine pairing. YMMV

Had dinner at Wu Chow on Monday, April 25. Excellent food. The eggplant dish was amazing. A little different take on Beijing (Peking) Duck but it was very good. Had to order 48 hours in advance.

They have an interesting but limited wine list. They also allow BYOB - $25 per bottle if not on their list. $35 per bottle if it is.

Any top notch Austin food spots allow BYOW. Not sure what the best restaurants in town are these days. But my daughter is graduating from UT Law and I’d like to have a nice “pull out all the stops” dinner with some great food (which must be vegetarian, but not vegan, friendly, though not exclusively vegetarian) and will allow us to bring our own wine. Corkage is not an issue though top notch stems are as I’ll be bringing very special birth year wines ('90 Ch. Margaux, '90 Dauvisat Le Clos, '59 d’Yquem, etc.).

All leads appreciated.

I just noticed the date of your post so I am probably too late but maybe for the next time you are in Austin…

Tough list Mike. I previously recommended Wu Chow. It has excellent food and as most Asian restaurants, a variety of vegetarian dishes to choose from. http://wuchowaustin.com/ The vegetable dishes we tried including braised eggplant, dry fried green beans, spicy cabbage, and steamed bok choy, and a green salad were all very good. The eggplant and the salad were the real standouts but all were very good. I don’t know about their stems. You should call about them. I took my own. Corkage was $25 per bottle. They do have their own wine list but I didn’t pay attention to the glasses they were using.

Ches Nous is a local favorite for wine lovers. http://cheznousaustin.com/ Decent stems. Last time I was there corkage was $25 per bottle. Stems were good, not sommelier but good. Again, I carry my own stems. They do have a vegetarian main on the list and some very good salads and cheeses if your daughter partakes.

Both restaurants would require reservations.

Update - removing Barley Swine and Barlata from this list. They’ve gone the way of the other restaurants in town. They acquire their “mixologist” and start serving sugar bomb drinks at $10-$15 each. Thus they are now longer BYOB. It’s a fairly sad BYOB landscape.

Time to remove Sway following their move to the dark side.

Add Thai Fresh (https://www.thai-fresh.com/). $8 corkage.
