TN: Highland Park 1999

1999 Highland Park - Signatory bottling

Highland Park, or ‘HP’ as some whisky lovers sometimes refer to it, is one of my top five whiskies. I bought this single cask bottling on release, one of 227 bottles. Bottled in 2014 at the cask strength of 52.1% for The Whisky Exchange. Soft vanilla with hints of spices and a dash of coastal peat. The mouthfeel is powerful and a touch raw. It thrusts across my tongue and, served neat, reminds me of its alcoholic strength with a hint of burn. A few drops of still Highland Park mineral water civilise the dram. A reasonably good single malt but I would have preferred two changes. Firstly, sherry cask ageing please. Secondly, longer in barrel to smooth out the edges and add complexity. Still, a worthy bottle.
