Why do Pinot noir producers make so much Chardonnay?

Seems like some producers try to stuff Chardonnay down their customers throats. Why not just make more Pinot or is there not enough land for them to viably make more?

I’m a newbie to lists and it’s incredibly annoying but I want to try some of these pinots so bad.

If a list bundles wines and you want only specific bottlings, you’re probably best off either buying on the secondary market or finding someone on the list to buy from. Lots of people here share allocations and some people will want the Chardonnays but not the Pinots. Post on Commerce Corner at allocation time.

As to why people make both, the grapes are linked through Burgundy and through their ability to make great wines from similar climates. I expect many winemakers, growers and owners love both, as do many wine drinkers.

Chardonnay as a variety is also more dependable from vintage to vintage, tends to have better crop yields, and generally less of a pain in the ass to grow than Pinot.

Why do Chardonnay producers make so little Pinot Noir?

To get to the other side of the road!
