Just hit my inbox. I’m in.

The Historic Vineyard Society’s 2nd Annual Vineyard Tour and Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012.

The Vineyard Tour, featuring Bedrock Vineyard, Fredericks Vineyard, Pagani Ranch Vineyard, Old Hill Ranch Vineyard and another vineyard to be named, will be led by HVS Board members Mike Officer (Carlisle Winery and Vineyards), David Gates (Ridge Vineyards), Morgan Twain-Peterson (Bedrock Wine Company) and Tegan Passalacqua (Turley Wine Cellars). Transportation for the vineyard tour will be provided by Pure Luxury Tours and a box lunch will be offered.

Following the Vineyard Tour, a dinner, catered by barbecue master Rob Larman of Cochon Volant, will be held at Bedrock Vineyard.
The dinner will feature special guests and delicious wines from some of California’s most iconic historic vineyards.

Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Availability for the tour and dinner is strictly limited.

Dinner only - $85

Proceeds will benefit the Historic Vineyard Society, a 5013C non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of California’s oldest vineyards.

I was super excited about this too, but unfortunately both of my kids have separate performances on that day.

if i didn’t get nauseous in buses…

Come on, man up!

I’ll see you there Brian!

For anybody who has a passion for old vines, these are some amazing sites, and you won’t find anybody more knowledgeable and passionate to tour them with than David, Mike, Morgan, and Tegan. This will be an amazing day!

Quick update:

The Vineyard Tour and Dinner is now completely sold out. We apologize for this, it went much faster than we anticipated.

HVS still has spots open for the dinner and tasting at Bedrock Vineyard.

Thanks,

Damn. Glad I didn’t blink.

Update II. We are in the process of engaging an additional bus. If anyone is interested in the tour, please PM me.

Thanks,

Mike

Would love to be there and almost considered a trip out west just for it. But couldn’t swing it. Should be a great time.

Sounds pretty interesting…but unfortunately the price is way over my budget. Maybe next time.

Events like these makes me wish I lived in CA…

Want to go so badly, it’s my B-day weekend, but I have to work as partner’s daughter is graduating college.

Bill Me Later - 6 mo interest free. It’s an option [cheers.gif]

After attending the very first HVS event last year where there were maybe twenty people in attendance, I was very happy to see the big turnout of consumers for this weekend’s vineyard tours (3 buses) and even bigger attendance for the dinner highlighted by great wines and a special guest speaker. I’m working on a blog post overview of the day and will hopefully have that up at pdwr tonight. I didn’t take any tasting notes but shot lots of digital (stills and video) of some exceptional properties and the people who take care of them. Hats off to Mike D, Morgan, David, Mike O and Tegan for pulling this together, and being great hosts. I’m not sure how much wine was consumed but I left at sunset and one table in particular was still going strong.

I was wondering where you and Al were, Ken! It isn’t an event without you guys!

Sounds like it was fun, Doug, but it turned out I was pretty busy on Saturday and would not have been able to make it anyway. Bottled some Coastview Vineyard Chardonnay and some no-sulfite Fiano with Bryan Harrington in SF, then headed to Berkeley to pour at an event for Eno Wines.

Ken,

I certainly would not want to miss the next Fiano! After trying it at World of Chardonnay, I mean Pinot Noir, I liked the wine a lot.

Fun is an understatement. Probably one of the most educational wine days I have ever had. Will Bucklin was a great host at Old Hill Ranch. A true organic farmer who believes everything has a purpose. Dino from Pagani is not the public speaking type. He lets the grapes speak for him. Tegan was a pure pleasure to listen to as we toured Fredericks Vineyard. He is loaded with great ideas of how to farm. Morgan is Morgan, I’ve met nobody more passionate about his craft and Bedrock Vineyard is a true gem in the valley.

I’ll toss out some photos I took:

Will took Old Hill from a vineyard in disrepair that was overgrown with blackberries to the delightful vision is now takes on. The only thing different now from when it was planted is the use of the combustion engine to draw the plow. Planted in 10 x 7 spacing it is unique in the valley as well as being the oldest vineyard in the Sonoma Valley.

Old vine Lenoir has an unusual leaf shape. The fruit is red skinned and red juiced and is used for color more than anything else.

Carole Meredith told a great story of her pursuit for the origin of Zinfandel and how she ended up finding it in a 9 vine vineyard of Crljenak Kaštelanski on the coast of Croatia that was an exact DNA match to what we have here in California
It was great to finally meet you Carole!

Lots of good people, good food and good wine. Not pictured was the 10 Bedrock Compagni Portis, 09 Buclkin Grenache, 01 Ridge Buchagnini Ranch Zinfandel. Left crowd shots out to protect the innocent. Can’t wait for next year!

I had breakfast with Carole and Steve the next morning. They said it was great. Might have to make the next one.
