burgundy day 2

Hung out with Ray Walker today. ray is a budding superstar. The wines are very pure and beautiful. We tasted the 2010s from barrel. Other than the Chambertin, they were going through malolactic so were hard to taste. But there is clearly a purity of fruit to all the wines that is truly special. Each wine tastes different from the last, each reflecting the terror. The Chambertin, which has not started malolactic is the best right now but I think the Charmes will be close and the Corbeaux, the Chaffots and the Mont-Luissants will also be outstanding. With lunch, we had the 2009 MSD Chaffots and the Charmes. Just beautiful and outstanding wines. I loved them both.

We had dinner with Ray at Ma Cuisine. We saw Allen Meadows there and Allen graciously came over and really praised Ray to all of us. It was sincere (and deserved) and was really a nice thing for Allen to do. Really shows the quality of person Allen is.

To sum a great day spent with a person who is extremely passionate about what he does from the way he makes his wines to the grapes he sources and the knowledge Ray has obtained about his vineyards.

Ray is Da Mon!
