TN: Two Prüm drunk together over two nights

TWO PRÜM DRUNK TOGETHER OVER TWO NIGHTS

  • 2011 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Pale gold. After initial reduction, a bouquet of lemons, yellow apples, peaches and other orchard fruit. On the second evening a whiff of kerosene developed. Fresh and refreshing. Primary and fruit forward. Pears, peaches and nectarines, with some citrus. At this stage, perhaps a little simple. Quite sweet-seeming for a Kabinett and, perhaps reflecting the vintage, a little soft. I would have liked a little more acidity and minerality. However, it’s a nice wine, easy to drink. Drink or hold. (90 pts.)
  • 2011 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Drunk beside the 2011 Kabinett, this is the better wine. Similar pale gold colour. A little reduction on opening, and less kerosene than the Kabinett on day 2. Perfumes of honeycomb, with orchard to tropical fruits, especially pineapple, meadow flowers and a touch of wet slate. On palate, sweeter and more honeyed than the Kabinett. Limes, peaches, pineapples and other tropical fruit, with flecks of mineral. As with the Kabinett, I would have liked more definition and acidity/minerality. Glycerol, silky mouthfeel. Good weight and balance. A lot of primary, expressive fruit. Hold for 3-5+ more years for more complexity. (91 pts.)
