TN: ShenandoahVnyds Vintage Port '82...(short/boring)

Had this as a dessert wine w/ Bill&Jane Sat night:

  1. ShenandoahVnyds Vintage Port AmadorCnty (19%) 1982: Med.color w/ some bricking; strong alcoholic/Portish/grapey/plummy some cedary/pencilly fairly complex oldPort nose; quite sweet bit alcoholic/Portish very strong grapey rather cedary/pencilly fairly complex flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long/lingering slight alcoholic/Portish strong grapey some cedary/pencilly finish w/ light gentle tannins; not the fierce alcoholic burn of a Portugese Port; still in wonderful shape and very good drinking; needed some Stilton.

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. I have, of course, followed LeeSobon from the very start. He’s very passionate about dessert wines and makes some of the best in Calif. Not sure what grapes were used in this Port but suspect it was Zin, not Portugese varieties. Would guess it was fortified w/ pure neutral grape spirits as it didn’t have the burn you get from higher alcohols in pot still brandies used in Portugese Ports. This Port is in fine shape and the end is not in sight.

This hasn’t been the case in many years.
