2011 Cappellano Barbera d’Alba Gabutti - Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d’Alba
A bouquet of black plums and other dark fruit, dark chocolate and liquorice with a little VA lift. On palate, it’s very intense and powerful. Structured with serious fruit weight. Fully ripe, but not, to me over-ripe, with racy acidity. Crème de cassis, dark chocolate, espresso and rocky minerals. Tannic grip and acidity on the finish. Large scaled, this Barbera needs three or four years to settle a bit. In my view, one of Piemonte’s top Barberas.
