Dujac Clos Saint Denis 1996 and Jadot Bonnes Mares 1996

Of all Dujac’s wines, I have always found that I tend to like the Clos Saint Denis most. I see slightly more elegance, slightly more length, and it has a lovely floral perfume, mixed with red fruit and spice. 1996 happened to be a great vintage for Dujac, showing none of the shrillness of the year. A brilliant and utterly profound wine that took its time on the palate and finished beautifully. 97

Jadot also made fine 1996s, and in fact the Bonnes Mares was if anything slightly softer than the Dujac. The nose was of cherries, smoke, and barnyard. A pretty wine, less impact than the Dujac, but for all that seamless and easy. Good solid finish. 93

We had the 96 Dujac CSD a couple of years ago and it really picked up at the end of the night. I was trying to save my last 2 for 5 more years . Looks like I’ll be down to 1 soon.
