What is the difference between the 12C and the G3?

The 12c - G3 is their Beckstoffer Reserve cab .

Happy buyer. Easy ordering process for sure, and I appreciate the previous buyer discount.

12C is from Block B-1B of Beckstoffer. Mike Smith and I use to split that block. It’s a killer block, a result of a landslide from the palisades. Very different soils from F Block, which is where Schrader, Fairchild and Alpha Omega come from. The 99-point (Spectator) Lokoya Rutherford 1997 came from B-1B.

B1-B ripens more, ripens about 1-2 weeks earlier and is sexier than F Block, but with less structure or tannin.

If you’ve been to Napa, you’ve probably seen the block. Its the “hump” in the block right off Silverado Trail where the Beckstoffer sign is, in Rutherford just north of the crossroad.

Thanks Roy, very helpful insight about the vineyard.

I opened a bottle of the 2012 12c Cabernet (not the reserve) tonight – lovely wine with a lot of Napa cab typicity. A bit hot on the nose but lots of dark fruit comes through on the nose and and palate, with good richness and a bit of peppery spice on the back. Very enjoyable big crowd pleasing wine.
