TN: 1996 Joseph Drouhin Clos Vougeot

  • 1996 Joseph Drouhin Clos Vougeot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (5/27/2017)
Lovely, lovely wine. Beautiful nose, dusty dry raspberries and sweet cherries with a hint of underbrush on the palate. Very Drouhin.

The first 1996 I’ve had which I’d describe as fully ready to drink.

Sounds yummy.

Nice to see a couple more positive notes on '96s. I’ve had a couple of bottles in the past 6 months (a Jouan MSD Clos Sorbe, and a Serafin Gevrey Corbeaux) that were outstanding but actually seemed genuinely ready to drink, without the leanness/tannin I’ve found in others.

It took a while but 21 years seems to have done the trick. I guess there’s something to US drinking laws after all.

Any hint of the 96 acid? I don’t think I’ve had a 96 where I haven’t seen it - even in the ones I’ve really liked - it was just more integrated there.
