Big Bold Napa Cab Recommendations

Hi All,

Looking to find some additional recommendations on big, bold Napa Cabs.

I’ve tasted the following wines within the past year and would like to expand:

  • 2013 Scarecrow (WOTY in 2016 for me)
  • 2013 Nine Suns
  • 2013 Araujo Eisele (Elegant)
  • 2014 Carter OG
  • 2013 Schrader LPV
  • 2012 Dominus (Elegant)
  • 2009 Stormy Weather
  • 2013 & 2014 Kata Beckstoffer
  • 2013 Alpha Omega ERA
  • 2013 Chateau Boswell (Elegant)
  • Portfolio of Realm wines (Bard, Dr Crane, To Kalon, Tempest, Falstaff, Farella, Moonracer, Houyi etc…)

Let me know if there any wines I should definitely try

It seems like you’re not too worried about $$ so:

Shafer Hillside Select (and also One Point Five for a cheaper option)

Good Start ;
Myriad
Outpost
Saxum
Abreu
Phelps Insignia & Backus
MacDonald
Dalla Valle Maya
Tongi
Peter Michael Les Pavots
'92 La Jota 11th Anniversary
Kapscandy GV
Becklyn Reserve
Maybach Materium & Amoenus

Shafer Hillside Select is definitely on my radar, I’ve had a few of their One Point Fives

Ned Valios - thanks for the note, I’ll start on those wines, seems like Mark Carter is ever-evolving.
I had the '96 La Jota Howell Mountain Anniversary and it was exceptional right out of the bottle, how was the '92? I have the ability to get it and was wondering how it was because of age

After drinking all of these wines, you start to become price conscious which I have become so don’t worry price is on my radar as well.

try to get a hold of a Bevan cabernet. Based on this list I suspect you will love them.

I wouldn’t go that far. I saw him this morning and he’s still going by Mike Smith.

LOL Brian Tuite - was thinking of Mark Carter of Carter Cellars but I know who Mike Smith is as well…good catch. It’s been a long day at work and it’s not even 5pm yet.

Seems like Roy Piper and Potts would fit

The '92 La Jota 11th anniversary is one of my very favorites and still a very big Cab. I buy it whenever I can find a decent deal.

Nice addition!

what Ned said
(although I’ve never had the Saxum Napa Cab newhere )

Caymus.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Greer. Secondly if you are willing to try a Bordeaux blend Arkenstone Obsidian would be a good choice.

There are a lot of good recommendations so far. I would also recommend the Caymus Special Selection, Mt. Brave Mount Veeder Cab and Switchback Ridge. One more, although it is from Sonoma and not Napa, would be the Hidden Ridge Impassable Mountain.

Thanks,
Ed

Sorry - Saxum produces Napa Cab?

Pride

Anybody know of any they’d say don’t fit the OP list?

Hundred Acre
Bevan
Merus
