JonBonne has an interesting article in Punch on his thoughts on the NorthernRhone:

The comments by ThierryAllemand are particularly worth reading.

Good read …thank u

IOW, Wines become popular, add internet, more darlings, wines sought, land values soar, wine prices go up exponentially, lamentations begin.

Cornas is small enough that if interest and hype gets out of hand, there will be little value. Personally I like them with a slightly rough/hard edge, but could easily see this dispensed with if attention really focuses on the appellation.

Ok, so what Cornas producer(s) these days that is still rough/hard edge?

great article thanks for the link. wish I could persuade the SO that Cornas was drinkable.

so its a region I only get to have when I’m with wine geeks, or if we’re opening up enough bottles with company over or something that she’ll have something she likes too.

Indeed, it is a tiny appellation – the smallest of the major zones in the Northern Rhone.

Total production in hectoliters, 2004:
Cornas: 3,823 (= 42,500 cases)
Hermitage: 4,783
Cote Rotie: 9,549
Crozes-Hermitage: 61,023
St. Joseph: 37,343
Condrieu: 4,700

1995 Clape Cornas was what started my craze for Northern Rhone syrah.
