What do you think Spectators #1 WOTY will be?

I thought it would be fun to weigh in on what fellow Beserkers think might be the wine of the year for 2016.

If by “would be fun” you mean “will result in a bunch of people grandstanding about how beneath them Wine Spectator and the WS Too 100 are,” then I agree.

2002 Krug

Maple Syrup spiked with Everclear, at around $350/bottle of memory serves.

I’d rather know yours?

2002 Krug would be right up there Mr Buzz for a wine that was released this year.

I’m not a spectator subscriber, but back in the day when I was, it was pretty easy to pick out the 2 or 3 wines that were most likely to win. Just do a search for scores of 94 and above, case production of at least a couple thousand. Then look over winners from the past decade, eliminate anything from a region that would be a duplicate, and narrow it down. Extra points for a wine that was in the top 5 in the past couple of years.

Like this? :stuck_out_tongue:

Caymus or Meiomi?

An Orin Swift or Molly Dooker wine?

I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed for Fairchild Stones No.1

Im keeping my fingers crossed for an Ilan as #1. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am too because I have a whole bunch I’d like to sell!

That would be awesome!

I might be mistaken, but I don’t recall a Burg ever “winning” #1.

Mollydooker. I mean, it has dook in the name. What more could they want.

By Alan’s logic it looks like Don Melchor would be a great candidate. And Banfi does do a good amount of advertising with Wine Spectator if that can be factored in as well…

IIRC a decade ago, don melchor would frequently show up on the top 10.

It will be something weird to show how clever they are at WS

South African cab or Portugese white for example

I have to admit I think the Wine Spectator top 100 is kind of fun. But the way it disrupts the market is annoying. I’m sure I’ll be receiving several emails from retailers in the next few weeks trying to get me to buy wine because it placed in the top 100.
