A wee BloodyPulpit:
- Wenzel: This was a producer I’d not tried before. It is in the WineMonger portfolio and EmilySchindler had
recommended I try them when I was there. Without an appointment, I pushed open the door and wandered into
the courtyard of the wnry. An old gent (RobertWenzel) was sitting outside their tasting room reading a book
and gave me a disinterested query “Can I help you”?? I told him I was interested in trying a few of the
Wenzel wines and he grudgingly arose & escorted me inside. He gave me a few perfunctory pours of pretty
good wines. I then dropped the E-bomb: “I’m a friend of Emily Schindler”. The guy lit up like a Christmas
tree with this huge grin and told me “Wait a minute” in very broken English. He went and retrieved his
son, Michael, who was very busy hosing down a freshly-emptied vat, and proudly introduced us “This is a
friend of Emily’s” (in German, of course), beaming from ear-to-ear as if he’d just discovered the Higg’sBoson.
Michael & I visited for about 30 minutes w/ his Dad standing there taking it all in; happy as a skunk in God’s
pocket. Quite a pleasant visit. And, across the board, the wines were outstanding. Because of my interest in
Furmint, I bought this hlf btl of dessert wine to try again later.
