TN: 1996 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese

  • 1996 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (7/30/2016)
#08-97, 8% abv. Though the Prüm wines of today may not show quite as much reduction and sponti as their historical reputation would suggest, this bottle sure did live up to that myth. Lots of sponti on the nose, as well as a bit of that funk that I find often in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr bottling. There’s a nice vein of golden apple sweetness on the nose as well. The 1996 vintage has been one of extreme acids, and this is true to that characterization. This has amazing drive and focus, and must be just getting into its secondary phase. There’s precisely the right amount of sweetness to keep that crazy acidity from becoming out of balance, and in fact, the sweetness here serves to rein in the screaming minerality as well. An archetype of Spätlese. (95 pts.)

Sounds tastay klassikisch!

Great note and it sounds like a great wine as well.
