2009 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat - USA, California, Napa Valley (7/28/2016)
Nice nose on the pull of the cork with red & black fruit (raspberry, blackberry, plum) jumping from the decanter with a bit of spice. Typical smell of dough / yeast which blew off fairly quickly. Palate was better than the nose with mildly pungent dark red and black fruit, light spice, and a tiny hint of cocoa powder and bay leaf. Medium acidity and light spice on a long finish without showing alcohol heat. This leans to a fruit forward style without being over the top. I’m seriously impressed! No need to pair this with anything because it’s just so enjoyable by itself. Just when I thought I was down to my final handful of California Cabernet producers, a monkey wrench is thrown in to my machine… and I mean that in the best way.
Okay, gotta go - gonna buy more. (93 pts.)
