Sad news from Bordeaux that Denis Dubourdieu has passed. My best memory of him was sitting next to him at a dinner and talking about ripeness. “I just watch the birds”, he said “when they start going after the grapes, you pretty well know you should be picking.” Always an incredible resource, and although a fanatically serious winemaker, and thinker, he never took himself that seriously.
