TN: 1964 Claret - B.C.

1964 Chateau Boyd-Cantenac (Margaux, Bordeaux)

I wanted to drink a mature claret so I chose this bottle. An rare Dutch bottling by F.J. Drehmanns & Zonen, I stood this up for 12 hours before opening. The cork came out cleanly in one piece. Cherry red, little sign of bricking. The initial smells coming out of my glass were distinctive and pleasant. Menthanol, wild boar saucisson and old oak barrels with hint of tobacco. The mouthfeel is initially soft and disarmingly easy to enjoy. However, the mid palate has a certain meaty concentration that impressed me. The bottle was finished in under 2 hours and did not fade one iota during this period. In fact, it opened up. Fully mature, like the couple of handful of 1964’s that I have tried over the years.

Beautiful. Always enjoy your notes Nicos

Thank you Neal.
