TN: 2006 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon (France, Champagne)

  • 2006 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon - France, Champagne
A chance to try the new release Cuvée Elisabeth … I’m a big fan of this Cuvée in most vintages and this vintage is good. However, given the choice, I’d buy the 2002 if you still can or wait for the 2008 (I assume there will be one) if you can wait that long and can no longer source a 2002 … Pale, attractive colour. Small bead. Drunk from a Riesling glass. Light and breezy bouquet of strawberries and raspberries, with some zesty citrus and hints of fresh salmon. On palate, it’s very primary and a little monolithic. It needs 3-5 years to settle down (and will, I’m sure, go 20 years easily). Red berry and citric flavours with nice savouriness on the finish. Perhaps, as it’s so young, I’m being unfair but I have high standards for this wine. Good but not seemingly great. Five gl/rs.
