Fu's birthday

CLAYFU’S BIRTHDAY - Los Angeles, CA (11/20/2015)

We gathered at Kinjiro to celebrate. Great food, great wine, great company. What else do you need?

  • 2010 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
From magnum. Very 2010. Dense white fruits, powerful acidity and a lovely rich texture. Very rich and dense with a nice vanilla lemon tone, this is an absolutely convincing bottle of Meursault. The oak is very judiciously used here. (93 pts.)
  • 2008 Louis Carillon Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
A truly welcome bastard. Very rich with a huge amount of white and yellow citrus. Sappy but totally cut with insane acidity. Easily one of the best chardonnays I’ve had this year. (98 pts.)
  • 1999 Coche-Dury Meursault - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Heartbreaking. I thought this was alright at first, showing the correct density, but the pervasive baked apple note and a slight oxidative note makes me call it as the pox. NR (flawed)
  • 1996 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Very dark and brooding. If anything this shut down more with air. Lots of earth and mushroom. Very rich and good structure, quite austere but a fair bit of fruit. Very high acidity and pretty stern structure. (93 pts.)
  • 1991 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Bonnes Mares - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Very potenr and dense black fruit with very prominent acidity. This had the acidic tartness of a 96 but without the tannic structure. A really old-school Burgundy. Rustic and convincing. (93 pts.)
  • 1995 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Showing about what you’d expect from this bottle. Foursquare and passable. Not the most complex, but this shows a fair bit of secondary character. A bit of rust, some nice notes of mushroom. Nothing interesting but decent. (88 pts.)

Nice wines, shame about the '99 Coche, it’s very good when it’s on…

Happy birthday Charlie

There will be some tonight.

Happy bday Fu!

I’m celebrating my 50th tonight with a few couples, it’s a pregame to the actual date next week, to be spent with family. Some nice wines planned, but nothing Fu or Favre style. I’m just a poor country lawyer.

also Happy Birthday… [cheers.gif] same date we my better half…

ah pregame…my english is really bad. [truce.gif]
