TN: '09 Turley Zins Dogtown & Tofanelli; '13 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis

Consumed separately over the last week or so:

2009 Turley Zinfandel Dogtown Lodi
Very dark/near opaque purple color. Complex red berry and blackberry aromas. Quite concentrated, but the sweet fruit and bright acidity keep it (barely) from being too heavy. Flavors of blackberry, black raspberry, etc. Slightly overtly sweet, this comes across as late harvest in style, i.e., bordering on a dessert/sweet wine. Overall, not sure it works as a table wine per se, but fairly complex and enjoyable for what it is.

2009 Turley Zinfandel Tofanelli Napa Valley
Very dark/near opaque purple color. Not too aromatic, but pleasant to smell – hints blackberry, other berry, vanilla. Unfortunately, this one falls into the ‘overly heavy/ponderous’ category, with straightforward, though concentrated, Zinfandel flavors, substantial, slightly gritty tannin, and moderate acidity. Bit tiring to drink.

2013 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis ($22)
Light white wine color. Pleasant to smell – hints lemon skin and freshly cut greenery. Bright, balanced acidity, nicely concentrated (in the medium bodied+ range), with straightforward white wine flavors – not too complex. Overall, enjoyable enough - like a decent if unremarkable Sauvignon Blanc.
